The Warriors entered the three-day tournament at Scaggs Field wilh a spotless 4-0 record, and the squad from Decatur left with a 7-0 record picking up a 12-4 wiu over the East Mississippi Community College Lions (2-5) on Monday. ''It's early in the year, and we are playing some pretly good ball," said ECCC head baseball coach JAke Yarborough. ''It ls good for us to play against these good caliber teams. We are competing and hit– ting balls well right now." Lions right fielder VanWilson led the way for his squad in the decisive end of tournament game. Young Warriors roll East Central improved to 5- 0 on the young baseball season following Sunday's 11·4 win over Jones County Junior Col– lege in second-round action of the rain-delayed Rush Classic held at Meridian Community College. The Diamond Warriors broke open a tight game by scoring six runs in the top of the ninth to clinch the victory. East Central also scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third, and one in the eighth. Jones, which fell to 0-4 , posted three runs in the first and one in the fifth. Nester had two doubles to lead Warrior sluggers. Darby, Destin and Eiland had doubles each. Turner collected the win. East Central began action in the three-day tournament by rallying from a four-run deficit to defeat host Meridian Community College 10-9 Sat– urday afternoon.

Ty Lawson, 0-2, started and took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits, with two strikeout!' and two walks. He held the Lions to one run on five hits after the first inning. Donnie Dearman's single scored Nick Chatham with JCJC's only run. The second game was rained out, but JCJC head coach Bobby Glaze said the game will be made up March 19 when the Lions visit Ellisville for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Coach Mark Easley's tennis teams lost at Meridian last week. Their matches last Wednesday at Hinds were rained out and their scheduled home matches Thursday vs. Holmes were canceled because of a scheduling conflict.
