Pearl River The basketball season continues for Pearl River Community College, after the Lady Wildcats defeated !:iout.hwest 75-66 Thursday in the chrunpionship game of the ~JCAA Reg.on 23 Tournament at Missis– Slppl College in Clinton. PRCC (23-7) earned a berth in the.NJCAANational Tournament, beginmng March 18 at Salina. Kan. Thursday's wtn came one nighL after Pearl River shocked previ– ously-undefeated Copiah-Lincoln 81-70 in the semifinal round. Audosha Kelley scored 34 point,s to lead the Lady Wildcats past Co- Lin, then added 23 in the championship ..,am e. 'She's the real deal," PRCC coach Ed Walley said. "She's not only one of the best players in j unior college, she's one of the best players~ this whole state, senior or junior col– lege." The PRCC men, however, saw their season come to an end at the region semifinals, as Holmes knocked off the Mississippi cham– pions 72-71 on Wednesday. The Wildcats let a 70-Gllead slip through their fingers in the final two minutes of the game against Holmes. Yandell Brown and Keesler Johnson each scored 22 points for

Pearl River, which finished its season 25-5. Jones JC Coach Bobby Glaze's baseball Bobcats lost a 4-1 decision at Ea"t Mississipp1last week. Ty Lawson, 0-2, started and took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits, with two strikeout!' and two walks. He held the Lions to one run on five hits after the first inning. Donnie Dearman's single scored Nick Chatham with JCJC's only run. The second game was rained out, but JCJC head coach Bobby Glaze said the game will be made up March 19 when the Lions visit Ellisville for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Coach Mark Easley's tennis teams lost at Meridian last week. Their matches last Wednesday at Hinds were rained out and their scheduled home matches Thursday vs. Holmes were canceled because of a scheduling conflict. The JCJC men's tennis team will be at Southwest Tuesday and both the men a nd women 's teams will host East Cen tral next Wednesday. - Sh awn Wansley
