B.11 DEAN OF PERSONNEL SERVICES & ATHLETICS Dean of Personnel Services :
General Statement of the Function: The Dean of Personnel Services is responsible for all personnel issues related to employment at the College. The Dean of Personnel Services reports directly to the Vice President for Business Operations in all matters related to College personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Coordinates hiring procedures for new personnel and current employee transfers within the College through the office of the Director of Human Resources; 2. Coordinates the process for performance evaluations for all College personnel with the assistance of the Director of Human Resources; 3. Assists in planning and implementing professional development activities; 4. Assists in policy development and the day-to-day implementation of current College policy related to personnel; 5. Ensures due process is in place and utilized consistently by supervising personnel; 6. Assists the Director of Human Resources in disciplinary issues that relate to College employees; 7. Serves as a liaison between the College and communities within the College’s five-county district; 8. Coordinates communications regarding changes in employment-related policies and/or procedures with the assistance of the Director of Human Resources; 9. Serves as a mediator when necessary; 10. Manages Workers’ Compensation requirements with the assistance of the Director of Human Resources; 11. Ensures understanding and compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and related regulations; 12. Ensures understanding and compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and related regulations; 13. Assists in the Strategic Planning Process; 14. Assists with employment-related litigation issues; 15. Coordinates employee leave records through the office of the Director of Human Resources; 16. Assures optimum program operation in relation to the stated goals and objectives of the Work- Based Learning Program; 17. Makes contacts with prospective employers to develop cooperative agreements for the placement of students in meaningful learning activities; 18. Recruits, selects, and supervises students who participate in work-based learning opportunities; 19. Organizes orientation sessions for new employees and work-based learning students; 20. Refers students to employers who provide work-based learning experiences; 21. Organizes and meets with the Work-Based Learning Advisory Committee and other instructor teams; 22. Monitors students’ performance on the job and in the classroom; 23. Assists in visitation and follow-up with employers to ensure quality learning experiences; 24. Recommends modifications in curricula and schedules to meet the needs of students and employers; 25. Assists in resume writing, job search, and interview skills workshops; 26. Assists in job placement activities and conducts follow-up reports on program graduates; and 27. Performs other duties as assigned by the President or Vice President for Business Operations.
