B.6 DEAN OF HEALTHCARE EDUCATION

General Statement of the Function : The Dean of Healthcare Education is responsible for the administration, management, organization, and supervision of all ECCC health-related programs including the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs, Basic Emergency Technology Course, and Surgical Technology Program. The Dean of Healthcare collaborates with the Director of Workforce Development on other health- related certifications. The Dean of Healthcare Education reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Serves as the Program Director for the Associate Degree Nursing Program. 2. Serves as the Program Coordinator for the Practical Nursing Program.

3. Maintains current American Heart Association Basic Life Support© certification, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Mississippi, and current immunizations and tuberculosis testing. 4. Completes and implements an annual professional development plan, which includes ten (10) contact hours of continuing education each academic year. 5. Must satisfy a criminal history background check pursuant to section 43-11-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, with no disqualifying factors. 6. Develops and maintains a positive environment conducive to the teaching/learning process. 7. Encourages and promotes the highest quality of instruction within the division in keeping with the educational philosophy of the College, nursing philosophy, and the standards of accrediting agencies. 8. Provides an adequate number of qualified faculty to teach in the division. 9. Conducts monthly division meetings with faculty members during most months. 10. Oversees program operations and makes modifications as deemed necessary. 11. Coordinates data collection with the Dean of Career & Technical Education for required federal and state reporting. 12. Serves as the budget manager for the Division of Healthcare Education to include preparation, implementation, and accountability for division expenditures. 13. Provides leadership and supervision of faculty in seeking quality improvement for assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare curricula. 14. Facilitates faculty development, recruitment, performance review, promotion, and retention within the division. 15. Encourages and supports continuing education of division faculty. 16. Evaluates faculty performance and submits recommendations to the Vice President for Instruction and Director of Human Resources. 17. Approves textbook and resource adoptions and course syllabi within the division. 18. Prepares and approves recommendations for class offerings and schedules for each semester. 19. Develops recommendations on creating and canceling classes, opening and closing classes, and making other adjustments in class and operational schedules. 20. Develops recommendations for faculty assignments and loads for each semester. 21. Assigns faculty offices and approves office schedules within the division. 22. Reviews and approves purchase orders, work orders, and travel requests for the division. 23. Chairs and organizes the Screening and Selection Committee for recommending new employees with the division and forwards the recommendations to the Vice President for Instruction

24. Assists in the recruitment, advising, and retention of students. 25. Reviews and approves substitutions in student degree plans. 26. Serves in the review process of student appeals to assure due process is upheld. 27. Coordinates selection of advisory committee members. 28. Represents the College at state meetings, conferences, and workshops.
