B.5 ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION
General Statement of the Function : The Associate Vice President for Public Information coordinates communication between the College, the news media, and the communities served by the College. The Associate Vice President for Public Information is responsible for the College’s overall communications strategy, visual identity, public relations, student publications, website content management, alumni relations, and the Foundation. The Associate Vice President for Public Information reports directly to the President of the College. 1. Prepares and disseminates news releases to newspapers, radio stations, and television in the district and, when applicable, to other news media; 2. Oversees writing, design, photography, editing, and other activities that directly support the development, production, and distribution of the College’s communication products including management of the College’s main website and the athletics website; 3. Produces the College’s alumni magazine, The Warrior, and the annual President’s Report; 4. Edits and publishes brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and other printed materials for the College; 5. Supervises production and publishing of the College yearbook, The WO-HE-LO, the campus newspaper, The Tom-Tom, and the College Catalog; 6. Coordinates and directs the activities of the College’s Alumni Association and the College’s Foundation through the Director of Alumni Relations & the Foundation. 7. Designs and distributes all official College advertisements to be placed in area newspapers and on television and radio; 8. Develops and implements the College’s media/marketing plan; 9. Provides material for and oversees the College’s use of online and digital communications, e.g., Webpage, Facebook, Twitter, etc.; 10. Assists the President in the preparation of the monthly Board of Trustees’ Report; 11. Approves all press releases pertaining to College activities and functions; 12. Coordinates the use of the College’s visual identity according to the Identity Graphic Standards Manual; 13. Works with the Sports Information/Communications Specialist and the Athletic Department to coordinate the collection and dissemination of athletic-related statistics, photos, and game results to the College community, athletics website, statewide networks, and the NJCAA; 14. Attends Board of Trustees’ meetings and reports appropriate action through news releases; 15. Prepares annual budget for all public information functions; 16. Works with district news media in promoting the College through paid advertisements and news releases; 17. Works with professional organizations such as the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) in promoting better college public relations; Duties and Responsibilities :
18. Maintains clip files from newspapers for College-related news articles; 19. Approves mass mail outs and proofs other public information news releases; 20. Serves as the first point-of-contact for all media inquiries to the College; 21. Chairs the Public Information Council;
22. Ensures human and financial resources are directed toward the most compelling, creative, and efficient means of institutional communication using a variety of communication venues and tools; 23. Performs other duties as assigned by the President of the College.
