6. In addition to personal illness, an employee may apply for sick leave for serious illness or death of family members. Family members will be interpreted to include spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, step parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brothers-in- law, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, uncles, and aunts; 7. Absences for sickness or death of other relatives (not listed in 6 above) and friends are not chargeable to sick leave and should be included in personal/vacation leave; 8. A sick-leave record-keeping system is maintained in the Office of Personnel Services on a current basis so that any staff member may accurately determine his/her entitlement at any time. The information is also posted to MyInfo on the College’s website; a. Forms for the requesting of sick leave may be secured from the College website ( www.eccc.edu ) or from the central duplicating office; b. Forms should be completed and filed with the supervisor so that they can be approved in advance, except in emergencies; c. In case of emergencies, the employee is responsible for notifying his/her immediate supervisor by telephone or email and for filing the sick leave request form on his/her first day back at work; 9. In short periods of absence not extending beyond a few days temporary arrangements/assignments should be made with the supervisor and other members of the department as possible; 10. Employees may donate a portion of their earned personal leave or sick leave to another employee who is suffering from a catastrophic injury or illness, or to another employee who has a member of his or her immediate family who is suffering from a catastrophic injury or illness. Leave may be donated under the following circumstances (with President’s approval): a . The immediate family shall include the employee’s spouse, parents, or children. b. The donor employee must designate the specific recipient employee. c. The donor employee must retain a minimum of seven leave days. d. The recipient employee must have exhausted all personal and sick leave to receive donated leave time. e. The catastrophic illness or injury must extend beyond three days and the established leave policies of the College must be followed with regard to documentation. f. Unused donated leave will be returned to the donor employees on a pro-rata basis.

Educational Leave

Professional personnel who have been employed for five years or more by East Central Community College may be given as much as a year’s educational leave under such terms as may be agreed upon at the time for the purpose of improving the employee for service. Educational leave shall be considered on an individual basis.

Full-Time Employee Attendance at Summer School

Full-time instructional or administrative employees on twelve (12) month contracts may be allowed up to six (6) weeks leave of absence with pay to attend summer school to further their education in their fields to meet requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Such employees will be required to enter an agreement with the College to return the
