D.41 SPORTS INFORMATION/COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

General Statement of the Function : The Sports Information/Communications Specialist oversees all aspects of media, sports information, and promotion relating to the college’s 10 intercollegiate sports programs, while also assisting the Office of Public Information in overall college media, promotion, external and internal communications, and marketing initiatives. The Sports Information/ Communications Specialist reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Public Information. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Writes and distributes media releases, hometown news, game notes, and feature stories to inform the general public and media about the college’s intercollegiate sports teams and student- athletes; 2. Writes content and provides graphic design for all sports publications; 3. Coordinates media coverage for home sports events; 4. Coordinates the radio broadcast crew and live streaming for sports events, and writes content for radio and public address announcers; 5. Manages the press box at home football games; 6. Creates and manages game-day promotions for sports events; 7. Handles all media requests for the sports programs and student-athletes in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Public Information; 8. Provides content for and maintains all portions of the sports website and main sports social media accounts; 9. Provides video features and interviews to enhance game coverage and for website and social media content; 10. Compiles records and statistics, using programs such as Dakstats and other software, and completes the necessary reports for the NJCAA, MACJC, JUCO Weekly, and other organizations; 11. Prepares nominations for weekly sports honors; 12. Develops relationships with local and statewide media; 13. Serves as photographer for sports and general campus events and activities; 14. Assists the other Office of Public Information staff in general, non-sports promotion of the college, including, but not limited to, preparing and distributing media releases, providing web content and updates, maintaining college social media accounts, covering college events and activities, writing articles for the college magazine, and providing graphic design for promotional materials, among other marketing and communications initiatives; and 15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Public Information.
