SUPERINTENDENT OF THE PHYSICAL PLAN T
General Statement of the Function : The Superintendent of the Physical Plant is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the College’s physical plant, grounds, and transportation equipment. The Superintendent of the Physical Plant reports directly to the Vice President for Business Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Supervises and directs the work of all physical plant personnel; 2. Establishes a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule for all physical plant, grounds, and transportation equipment; 3. Ensures that all heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for buildings operate properly; 4. Trains physical plant employees to recognize and to avoid dangerous practices, and to report all safety hazards to the Superintendent of the Physical Plant for correction and/or evaluation by the Vice President for Business Operations and President, when warranted; 5. Safeguards against damage or unnecessary exposure of all property of the College District assigned to the campus; 6. Supervises the cleanliness of all campus buildings and spaces and is responsible for the appearance of grounds and the serviceability of walkways and roads; 7. Assists the Vice President for Business Operations in preparing the Enlargement and Improvement (E&I) budget addressing the needs of the campus physical plant facilities and effecting costs savings whenever possible; 8. Schedules requests for equipment and materials, plans improvements, and establishes priorities for labor and material usage; 9. Acts as “Owner’s Representative” in dealing with architects, contractors, and material suppliers; 10. Receives, stores, and distributes all purchased materials; and 11. Performs other duties as assigned by the President or Vice President for Business Operations.
