The Meridian Community College men's soccer team was looking to continue its early season success on Wednesday night as it played host to East Central Community College at C.D. Smith Field . The Eagles rode the wave of a hat trick from freshman sensation Donjay Smith to secure a 5-2 victory over the Warriors and improve to 2-0 overall for the 2016 season. The Eagles will return to action on Friday with a road trip to Co-Lin Community College for its first MACJC South Division game of the season beginning at 6 p.m. The MCC women will also be in action at Co-Lin on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in its first conference game of the season. The Eagles wasted little time by scoring its first goal of the evening in the opening minute behind freshman Pedro Dutra to give MCC the early 1-0 lead. Freshman Donja Smith would score two of his three goals in the first half for the Eagles. while ECCC scored its lone goal of the half on a penalty kick to make the score 3-1 after one half. Smith completed the hat trick with his third goal of the match in the 48th minute and Thallison Alex added a goal in the 47th minute on a free kick to round out the scoring for the Eagles. Kale Voge also added an assist in the three-goal victory for the Eagles.
