· ECCC raises f unds for 'Swim with Dolphins' Eden Smith's "Make-A-Wish" trip to Hawaii where she plans to swim with dolphins will become a reality thanks to fundraising efforts led by coaches and student-athletes at East Central Community College in Decatur. Approximately $2,000 was raised to help send the young cancer victim and her family on her "dream vacation." Athletic Director Chris Harris is shown making the presentation to Eden's mother, Lynne Smith, an ECCC English instructor and Quitman resident. Bracelets with the inscription "Share the Power of a Wish" were provided by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi and sold for $5 each with all .:. proceeds designated for 10-year-old Eden (shown in photos in background) who recently completed treatments for Hodgkin's Lymphoma at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis. "Eden's illness has been very traumatic for her and for us," said Smith. 'We are overjoyed that she is now in remission and feeling well enough to fulfill her wrsh of traveling to Hawaii and .swimming with the dolphins!" The trip is planned for July 2013.
