EC receives accreditation reaffirmation DECATUR - East Central Community College in Decatur recently received notification ofreaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges, announced new ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart. Dr. Stewart said ECCC was included among colleges awarded reaffirmation of accreditation at the June 2012 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the SACS Commis– sion on Colleges. "This recognition validates what we know: the institution con– tinues to provide a high-qualit), post-secondar) educa– tional experience for students throughout our five-coun– ty service area. However, this reaffirmation is also a chal– lenge to continue to improve the quality of the college's programs and services.'' "The reaffirmation process has resulted in many posi– tive outcomes for our college," added Dr. Stewart, "including the implementation of the Freshman Year Experience program, The Warrior Path to Success, iden– tified by the College as its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)." Each institution applying for reaffirmation of accredi– tation through SACS is required to develop a QEP that addresses one or more issues that contribute to the 1 improvement of student learning. - Dr. Teresa Houston, the college's new Vice President for Instruction, explained, "The College has developed a QEP to assist students in their transition to college life. Beginning with those who enroll in the fall of 2012, all first-time, full-time, at-risk developmental students will be enrolled in The Warrior Path to Success which is designed to provide students with tools and techniques, not just for academic success, but success in all facets of their lives. This experience will engage students in activ- ities that will promote their social and economic mobili- ty." Dr. Stewart added, "This achievement would not have
