Sumter, the No. 3 seed in the event, opened the game with a 16-3 run and was in control most of the way against second-seeded Cen– tral Christian of Selma, Ala. Kate Derby scored 18 points and had six s~als for Sumter, which evened its record at 11-11. Erin Ozment added 13 points and Alley Rundles scored nine. Central Christian got 18 points from Erikka Caldwell and 11 from Tiffany Brown. Sumter will take on top– seeded South Choctaw in tonight's 6 p.m. tournament finals. Sumter, which is now 10- 12 overall, will take on West Alabama Prep in tonight's area tournament champi– onship game at 7:15. West Alabama topped host South Choctaw 63-60 in Thursday's semifinals. The Eagles led jus t 12-8 after one quar ter, but we r e up 35-22 at the half. The Lady Warriors improved to 13-5 overall, while Jones fell to 14-5. Both teams are in a logjam in the South Division standings, tied for second place with 5-3 records. East Central led 45-34 at halftime thanks to a late 11-0 run, never trailing in the second half. Former Lake standout Valerie Harris pumped in 24 points to lead the Lady War– riors, while Tanesha Brown scored 21. Newton County product Andrea Dubose chipped in 12. Jones got 20 points from Rosemary Green and 17 from Kate Hubbard.
