Overtime field goal , lifts Hinds over ECCC It was another frustrating

The longtime division rival– ry began on a positive note for the Warriors as speedster Mau– rice Langston returned the opening kickoff 64 yards to the Hinds 27. But EC was unable to take advantage of the opportunity and gave up possession on the Eagle 17-yard line following a fumble. Hinds would take a 7-0 lead later in the period on a one– yard plunge by quarterback Jarrod Fleming of Orlando. Ware added the PAT. EC responded to the Eagle tally with Hannah's 26-yard field goal with 1:33 left in the first quarter, capping an eight– play, 72-yard march. The Warriors took their first lead of the night two pos– sessions later when wide receiver Freddie Parham, who hails from St. Clair County High School in Margaret, Ala., found the end zone from 20 yards out on a flanker reverse with 11:41 left in t he second stanza. Hannah added the PAT and the Warriors held a 10-7 advantage. East Central missed anoth– er scoring opportunity_ on its next possession , as the War– riors drove to the Hinds 30- yard line. But EC could get no

closer and turned the ball over after failing to convert a fourth and 16 situation, giving Hinds excellent field posit ion at its 45-yard line. The Eagles took advantage of the opportunity as Ware con– nected on a 25-yard field goal, which tied the contest at 10-10 with 1:34 left before·halftime. East Central took the ensu– ing kickoff and quickly drove 65 yards in just six plays to retake the lead at 17-10, thanks to Langston's 22-yard touchdown scamper. Hannah added the PAT. Hinds would again tie the contest late in the third quar– ter on a 14-yard run by Anton Taylor of Jackson. Ware added the PAT. Neither team threatened to score in the final stanza until Hanna's missed field goal from 52 yards sent the game into overtime. Williams finished the night by completing seven of 16 pass– es for 62 yards. Backup signal caller Jacob Massey of Union completed two of six attempts for 35 yards. Parham was the leading receiver with three receptions for 34 yards. Lamario Hopson was the leading ground gainer for EC, with 74 yards on nine carries.
