Former MSU standout joins EC as assistant basketball coach
Blessing Chekwa was recently named assistant women's basketball coach at East Central Community College in Decarur, announced head coach Billy Smith. Prior to joining the ECCC coach– ing staff, she was a four-year member on the Mississippi State University Lady Bulldog squad. where she start– ed as a freshman. She received the best defensive player award her fresh– man and senior seasons and participat– ed in the 2003 NCAA tournament. In addition, she was a member of the 2004-05 Lady Bulldog team that set the record for !he longest winning streak in MSU women's basketball history. She was also a member of the FeiJowship of Christian Athletes and the MSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Cbekwa is a 2002 graduate of John Ehret High School in New Orleans,
La., where she was a first team All– District and All-State player. She was named Louisiana's 5-A Player of the Year, was named to the John Ehret's All-Decade Team and had her jersey retired. During her junior season, Chelcwa's team won the Louisiana 5- AState Championship. Chelcwa holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in clinical physiology from MSU.
