ECCC fast-pitch finishes third .)1 al to TI1e Recmd East Central Communi– ty College's fast-pitch soft– ball team finished third in the i\IACJC/Region 23 Fast-Pitch Softball Tour– nament held May 6·8 on the Decatur campus. The ECCC women, who completed season action with a 34·5 record under second-year head coach Scott Hill. fell 8-1 to the Lady Tigers in scmi·fmal action Sunday afternoon to close out competition in the double-elimination tournament. The Lady Warriors post– ed wins over Copiah-Lin– coln (3-l) on Friday and slipped past Northwest (3.0) and Gulf Coast 5-4 during Saturday contests. East Central lost its first matchup with Northeast by a 5-0 mwgin Friday night.

Meridian Community College won the champi– onship title by defeating Northeast 4-2 .The MCC women went undefeated in the three-day event, posting wins over North– west (2-1) and Gulf Coast (1.0) on Friday followed by another close win (1-0) over Northeast Saturday. ECCC hurler Marley Smith of Union suffered her only loss of the year in the semi-final defeat to Northeast. allowing three runs on four hits during two and a third ilmings of work. ECCC 3, Northwest 0 The Lady Warriors scored twice in the third and once in the sixth in recording the shut out vic– tory. EC hitters were Chaney, Miller, Jennifer Smith and Shelly Ferguson and Suzanne Chaney, both Newton County products. Marley Smith allowed just three hits in picking up the shut-out victory. She fanned five batters and wall products of Newton Coun– ty High School, had two singles each; and Abby Miller of Madison Central had a single. Davis scored East Central's lone run. ECCC 5, Gulf Coast 4 Kristin Chaney scored the winning nm in the bot– tom of the ninth on an infield hit by Marley Smith. Gulf Coast had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the flrst inning on Emily LeBlanc's solo homer. Abby Miller blasted a two– run shot in the bottom of the first to give East Cen– tral a 2-llead. Gulf Coast rallied for three runs in the third but EC tied the con– test when Kotreece Bender of Newton doubled, scor– ing two Lady Warriors. Chaney led EC hitters with three singles and scored twice. Bender added a double and singles were recorded by Miller, Mapp, Lauren White of Union, Erica Hardin of Louisville and Joy Cave– naugh of Newton County. Miller, Jennifer Smith and White also scored for EC. Marley Smith went the distance for EC on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits.
