Vowell scholarship recipient Tara Renaud of Carthage is the recipient of the Lavern Vowell Memorial Scholarship to attend East Central Community College in Decatur and is shown receiving the annual award from family repre– sentative Chris Vowell {left) of Newton. Renaud, a freshman business administration major, is a member of the ECCC Players and Lady Warrior tennis team. She is an honor graduate of Carthage High School where she was a Beta Club member and participated in ECTAG. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Renaud of Carthage. The scholarship-which provides tuition for two semesters- was established in 1993 by Elizabeth, E.L. and David Vowell to honor the memory of their husband, and father, Lavern Vowell, and to assist a worthy student in attending East Central. The Vowell family operates Sunflower Food Stores in Carthage, Philadelphia, Louisville, New– ton, Noxapater and Forest. Also pictured during the scholarship pre– sentation is Gene Gunn who manages the Carthage store. Chris Vowell is manager of the Sunflower Store in Newton.
