East Centra[ extended its lead to 10-3 in the third stanza, when Weems split the uprights on a 21-yard field goal. The 74-yard scoring drive was again set up by a Lion fumble, this time recovered by Michael Holbert on the Warrior 26. The big play of the successful march was a screen pass from quarterback Bobby Breen to McGee which covered 63 yards and gave EC possession on the East. Mississippi 13. · On the ensuing kickoff, the War– riors attempted an onsides kick which the Lions recovered on the Warrior 40. East Mississippi later scored on the game possession on running back Mike Duck's 11-yard burst ith 46 seconds left in the third period. Slaughter's PAT knotted the contest at 10-10. After an exchange of possession, the Warriors regained control by marching 82 yardlJ. for the winning score, with McGee finding paydirt on his 36-yard gallop to the endzone with 5:21 remaining. East Mississippi threatened to score in the game's waning moments, but Jamie Day's in– terception on the EC 13 with 19 seconds left put the game on ice for the Warriors, who ended the season with two straight victories.

The Warriors, who finished with a 2-8 record, handed East Mississip– ~ pi (3-7) its seventh-straight defeat "and spoiled the Lions' homecoming celebration already hampered by in– clement weather. A steady drizzle and threatening condittons played havoc throughout first-half action ,and into halftime activities when homecoming ceremonies were held despite the weather. , East Mississippi gave its alumni and fans reason to cheer early in the non-divts1on matchup when Ricky Slaughter's 34-yard field goal gave 'the Lions a 3-0 lead with 12:21 left in first period action. The scoring drive covered 59 yards. The Warriors later responded wnh a 90-yard scoring march, climaxed by running back Derrell Reed's !>ix-yard scamper with 10:52 left before halftune. Peyton Weems kicked the PAT. A highlight of the long march, !>et up by Warrior defender La'Selle Spain's recovery of an East Mississippi fumble, was running back Tony Odom's 33-yard ;aunt to the Lion ' 32-yard line.
