East Central 's Warriors face another uphill bat– tle in search of their second win of the 1989 football s~a~o~ as they head t EUisville for a 2 p.m. South DIVISIOn contest with Jones Junior College Saturday. Th~ Warri~rs (~-4 So~:~th, 1-6 overall) have drop– ped ftve stra1ght, mcludmg last week's 31-7 decision to Pearl River. Jones (3-1, 5-2) leads the series 35-19-1 and won last year's game 35-7 in Decatur. Jones _could _claim its first winning season in four years wtth a v1ctory. The Bobcats are very much in the state playoff picture as well. Coach Elmer Hig– ginbotham's team leads the state in scoring with a 35.3-point average. In their lowest output the Cats still put 24 points on the board (at Coahon{a). Jones ripped Southwest 52-6 last week. "They loo~ like a_ma~hine scoring," ECCC coach ·A.J. Kllpatrtck sa1d. They throw well and run well. They do a good job utilizing the strength they've got. I hope we can keep them slowed down a little." ECCC's defense has allowed an average of 27.4 points through seven games. Jones quarterback Leonard Williams has com– pleted 73 of 156 passes for 1,295 yards and 15 touchdowns. His favorite tar get has been wide receiver Robert Thomas (23 catches for 331 yards tnd three touchdowns) .
Freshman tailback Kenny Jordan leads the ground attack with 450 yards and five touchdowns. He's also returned nine kickoffs for 287 yards. Fullback Bill Lowman adds 336 yards and two touchdowns. Tailback Donald Matthews has 269 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Matt Wiltshire has scored 47 points hit– ting 9 of 12 field goals and 20 of 25 extra pointS. Kilpatrick hopes to have tailback Sammie Holifield (249 yards) back at full speed after being hampered with a leg injury the last two weeks. Darnell Brown leads the Warriors in rushing with 303 yards, while quarterback Lamont Byrd has rushed for 224 yards and completed 21 of 58 passes for 352 yards. Greg Fulton ( 14 of 38) has passed for 253 yards. Tony Kidd has 19 receptions for 397 yards and three touchdowns . Linebacker Wyatt Williams had 19 tackles last week and leads ECCC with 85. Defensive back David Nichols had 10 last week and is second on the year wit? 52. Opie Ray returned to the lineup last week wtth 11 tackles. Arlando Daniels has 50 tackles, nine a week ago. Linebacker Carey Davis leads Jones in tackles with 50, while linebacker Andy Parnell and corner– back Danny Blackwell each have 43. Blackwell also has three interceptions and has broken up eight passes.
