ECJC Splits With Clarke

East Central Junior College split a double-header with visiting Clarke College Friday, April 10 as the- Warriors snapped an 11 -game losing streak. East Central won the first game 13-3 but Clarke bounced back to take the second contest 11-6. Clarke's win also ended a long losing streak, as the Panthers snapped a 15-game losing skid. In other games last week. ECJC fell 9-6 and 14-4 at Southwest April 8 and lost 11-10 (in a game continued from March 4 and rescheduled because of darkness) in nine innings, 10-0, and 11-5 to visiting Co-Lin April 6. East Central, 3-21 overall and 2-18 in South Division play, will travel to Hinds April 16, host East Mississippi April 20 and entertain Jones April 21. In the win against Clarke, Ryan Hull of Chunky registered the win as he fanned four, walked five, and allowed five hits in five innings pitched. East Central hitters were Hull, home run; Will Summerall of Morton, double and two singles;

. Patrick Kelly of Morton, two singles; Tommy Wallace of Louis– ville, triple; Greg Warren of Forest, double; and Miles Porter of Morton, double. In registering the win, East Central jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and added two runs in the third. three in the fourth, and three in the fifth. In the second game, Rory Willis of Philadelphia and John Martin of Monroe, Michigan went the distance. Willis struck out three, walked six, and allowed nine hits in five and 2 /J innings. Martin fanned one, had no walks, and allowed six hits in one and 2 /J innings pitched. ECJC hitters were Sumerall, two singles; Hull two singles; Jason Thomas of Union, two singles; Willis, Kelly, and Doug Jones of Philadelphia, singles each . In the first game with Southwest, Martin took the loss. East Central hitters were Wal– lace, three singles; Kelly, triple and single; Sumerall and Jones, two singles each. · In the second game with Southwest, Wallace took the loss. Sluggers for East Central were Kelly and Wallace, two singles each, and Warren, single.

The 'Cats sent 16 men to the plate in the fifth, scoring five runs to cut the deficit, 8-7. J.D. Stillwell's double scored Randy Habetz to tie the game in the sixth. A two-RBI single by Todd Dugas in the seventh gave the 'Cats the win. Rory Willis was the losing pitcher for the War– riors, while Chris Bates picked up the win. Pearl River scored five runs in the first inning and eight in the sixth to blast the Warriors in these– cond game. The 'Cats only managed six hits in the second game, but benefitted from four Warrior errors and 10 walks. East Central's next activity will be a I p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Decatur against Gulf Coast.

DECATUR - The South division leading Pearl River Wildcats swept a doubleheader from East Central 10-8 and 14-0 here Friday. The Wildcats are now 13-4 overall and 8-0 in league play. East Central fell to 2-11-1 overall and 2-9-1 in-division play. The Warriors threatened to upset the 'Cats in~he first game as they used four homers to take ar1:8-2 lead after four innings. Ryan Hull hit two homers, while Miles Porter and Patrick Kelly added one homer each. Hull's first homer was a solo shot, while the se– cond blow plated two runs. Porter's homer scored three runs and Kelly's scored two.
