ECJC's·coach Wood -. Is "Coach Of The Year"

In 1973, they: attended the AIAW Regionai: Tournament and the Nationar Junior College Region Vii: Tournament in 1977, 1978, and; 1979. ·: Last year Wood served as a· coach for the First Junior" College All-Star game. She was among the 22 finalists in the nation for Junior College Coach of the Year. This year she served on the National Junior College Coach of the Year Selection Committee and is the newly elected president of the Junior College Women's: Basketball Association in; Mississippi. Wood, along with other "Coaches of the Year", will be honored at a banquet in July· during the All-Star Week. •

After leading her East Central Junior College team to the 1979 State Championship, Miss Lucille Wood was named "Coach of the Year in Women's Junior College Bask– etball." This is the first year junior college coaches have been included by the Missis– sippi Association of Coaches. Wood attended East Central Junior College after gradua– tion from Louisville High School. She holds the B. S. and Master's degrees from the University of Southern Missis– sippi and has done advanced work at Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi . After receiving her degree at Southern, Wood taught at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and came to East Central in 1956. In the earlier years, East Central always had a

club type basketball team and played against other schools and independent teams. In 1968, Wood along with the coaches from M.U.W., Gulf Coast and Hinds organized a basketball association for colleges in Mississippi. East Central participated in this organization until they joined with other junior colleges and became a part of the Missis– sippi Junior College Associa– tion in 1975. During this period, Miss Wood's teams won the State Championship in 1968, 1970, and 1973 as a club team, and in 1976 and 1979, as a member of the Mississippi Junior College Association.
