He is an active member of the community, taking part in civic affairs. He is a member of the Decatur Jaycees, having served this organization as president, vice president, board member and is presently serv– ing as secretary. He is an ac– tive member of the ECJC alum– ni association, having served as Newton County vice presi– dent. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Newton County Academy. He is an active member of the Decatur United Methodist Church, serving on the admini· strative board, committee on pastoral relations, council on Ministries, and is chairman of Evangelism. Cooper is a Captain in the Mississippi A r m y National Guard serving as Battery Com– mander of Service Battery, 4th Battalion, 114th Artillery in De– catur. He is married to the former Lois Blount of Decatur and they have two sons, Doug, age 7, and Mike, age 17 months. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. W. !H. Cooper of Carthage.
