East Central led 36-28 at the half. East Central broke the game open in the second ball, leading by as many as 22 on one occasion before securing the 15-point victory. Sophomore guard Ravion Henry led all scores on the evening with 18 points for the Warriors. He also pulled down nine rebounds. Prince McDaniel added 13 points, and freshman Tonzell Handy had 12 points. For ward Derrick Dandridge bad 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for East Central.

The Warriors also lost freshman forward Tonzell Handy midway through the second half due to two tech nical fouls in the game, one for hanging on the rlm too long after a dunk. Two of the Warriors big men, 6-9 Randy Phillips and 6-10 Shaquille Benson, were both in foul trouble most of the second ball against the taller Pearl River Wtldcats. The contest was close most of the evening. The seesaw affair saw Pearl River jump out to an early seven point lead, only to have East Cen tral go on a 15-3 run to take a five-point lead, 17-12,midway th.rough the first half. The lead changed bands several times before the Wildcats grabbed a one-point lead going to the locker room, 29 28. Pearl River maintained a slim lead for the first 10 min

utes of the second hall. A thundering breakaway slam by sophomore forward Prince McDaniel gave East Central a 52-50 lead with 9:55 remain ing, a lead tho Warriors would not relinquish. East Central built its biggest lead of the evening, 70-60, with 4:02 to play on a two-handed slam by the 6-5 Handy on a tbree-on~ne fast break But the former Lanier product wascalledforbanglngonthe rim. The Warriors hit all six of their free throws in the final 3:25, to go along with key 00&- kets by Phillips and sopho more guard Ravion Henry, to secure the eight point win. Playing with a shorter bench than usual, the East Central Community College Warriors put in a gutsy effort in an important 80-72 MACJC South Division win over the Pearl River Community Col lege Wildcats on Thursday in Brackeen-Wood Gym on the Decatur campus. The Warriors improved to 9-6 overall on the season and 4-2 in MAC.JC South Division play. The Pearl River Wild cats fell to 10-5 and 4-2 in the South Division. East Central is now in a four-way tie for second place in the South Di vision. East Central was playing without starting sophomore guard Isaiah Traylor, who was out with an injury. The 6 4 Arkansas State slgnee is averaging 11 points per game.
