JUCO BASKETBALL ECCC splits doubleheader with Gulf Coast From school reports

The Warriors shot just 31 percent from the floor in the second half to the Bulldogs' 56 percent. East Central's Ravion Henry out of Leake Central High School led all scorers with 21 points. Prince McDaniel out ofPascagoula High School added 15, and Keion Peo ples out of Ridgeway High School (Memphis, Tenn.) had 10 points to go with team highs of seven rebounds and six assists. The Warriors fell to 6-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in MACJC South Division play. Gulf Coast remained undefeated at 12·0 and 3 0. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 17 in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25 Poll. The Warriors and Lady Warriors travel to Wesson on Thursday to face MACJC South Division foe Copiah-Llncoln at 6 and 8 p.m. The Copiah-Lincoln women currently are ranked No. 17 in the nation.

Courtney Harper out of Laurel High School came off the bench to score nine, hitting 4 of 6 shots from the field. It was the fifth straight win for the East Central Lady Warriors who improved to 10-2 overall and 2· 1 in the MACJC South Division. Gulf Coast fell to 9-3 and 1-2. In the men's action, East Central took a 14 point lead to the locker room al halftime over the unde feated and nationally ranked Gulf Coast Bulldogs but could not hold on down the stretch in a 78-77 loss. Gulf Coast held East Central to just 24 second-half points after scoring 53 in the first 20 minutes.

DECATUR-Behind a pressure defense that produced 29 turnovers and 21 steals, the East Central Community College Lady Warriors raced to a 91-47 MACJC South Divi sion basketball win over the vis iting Mississippi Gulf Coast Com munity College Lady Bulldogs Monday night. East Central never trailed in the contest, which saw three Lady War riors score 17 points. Alexia McDonald out of Petal High School, Kalybriah Haskin out of Olympian High School (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Samantha Duncan out of Oak Grove High School each had 17. McDonald added eight rebounds and four steals. Haskin chipped in a game-high five assists.
