"They were my first offer, and J took that really big," he said. "The coaches were really good to me, and always checked on me. Coach told me I would come be the starter, and that I'd be in the rotation. They think I'll be a really good fit for the program." The stress of recruitment is over for the two players, and now Braswell and McGillis can just focus on one last run with their teammates. "It's a big accomplishment," Braswell said. "I've been playing since I was little, and I've always wanted to play at the next level. The fact that I can now, it's crazy. Tt takes a big load off. I can just play freely and not worry about if I have a bad outing or who's going to be looking at me." It was an equally easy decision for the PCS middle infielder, McGillis. He remembers when he watched the Southern Miss 2009 team in the College World Series wilh his dad, US~1 Director ofAthletics, Bill McGillis. "I just love the university and I love Hattiesburg," Will McGillis said. "The baseball program is my favorite one in the country, and there's nowhere else I'd want to play." McGillis said he's a shortstop at heart, but he's not quite sure where he'll play when he starts at Southern Miss. He'll play anyv.·here, he added. "It's an awesome feeling, and it's great to be up here \'\i.th Braswell and know we have a place lo play college baseball," McGillis said. "Now we can just focus on our senior year, celebrate this day and get ready for the rest of our careers." Earlier this fall, McGillis suffered a torn ACL injury thal has prevented him from playing in his senior year on the basketball team. He's expected to return sometime during the baseball season, but the timeline is still uncertain.
