Former Neshoba Central softball standout Ty Buckley can add playing on a national championship team to her resume. She and her Mississippi College teammates captured the 2016 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national so~ball championship this past weekend in Troutville, Va., as they defeated Belhaven College 3-0 In the championship game. The Lady Choctaws (39-19) set a new school record with their 39th victory of the season. shutting out the cross-town rival Blazers (37-9) in the final game of the season. Buckley is a junior at Mississippi College, having played two seasons at East Central Community College. In her first season with the Lady Choctaws, Buckley put up some big numbers as she set the school's single season record with 13 home runs. She ranks second In school history for runs scored (48) In a single season and fiM in slugging percentage (.743). During the 2016 season, she, led the Lady Choctaws in batting average (.364), runs scored (48), home runs {13), RBI {49), slugging percentage (.743) and on-base percentage {.467). She ranked third on the team In stolen bases {21) and doubles (10), all despite missing nine games due to Injury early in the season.

Buckley was credited with 10 RBis in the first three games of the tournament.
"! could not be prouder of this team," said head coach Brooke O'Hair. "They gave it everything they had all season long and it all came to fruition today. This team Is really special, and they proved it today." Mississippi College senior Carlie Sargent (21-11), the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, tossed her 9th career shutout, striking out seven and giving up just four hits. In the first inning of the championship game, MC got all the offense they would need as a two-out rally was started by a single from freshman Alexia Harmon. Freshman Kristen Qualls singled through the left side to put runners at first and second. Buckley drove in the game-winning run with a single to right-center field that chased home Harmon and give MC a 2-0 lead.
