East Central Community Col l g sophomore crecond bas&- man Mahalia Gibson is the Mis isffippi Association of Com munity and Junior Colleges Player of the Week in softball for lbe week of Feb. 15-21. The Oak Grove High School product batted .451 and hit four home run to help East Central to a 4-1 record last week. She • hit two home runs in a Win over Southwest Mississippi Commu nity College in the Meridian Rush Invitational, drivingin five runs. Shealso hit a home run in each game of a doubleheader against Shelton State Commu nity College in Tuscaloosa. For the week, Gibson was 7 for-17 al the plate with 10 RBI and eight runs scored. She also pitched for the Lady Diamond Warriors and picked up tbe win against Bishop Stat.e Community College out of M~ bile, Ala., in the Meridian Rush Invitational. Gibson gave up five hit and struck out seven bat ters in a 12 to 4 win. The No. 2 ranked Lady Dia mond Warriors only loss last week was 3-1 to defending Na tional Junior College Athletic As ociation Division I Softball National Champion Chipola College (Fla.) in the Meridian Rush Invitational. ECCC is now 12-1 on the sea son. East Central sophomore left fielder Summer Lavender from Canton Academy was both the MAC.JC Softball Player of the Weck and the NJCAA Division II National Softball Player of the Week for Feb. 8-14.
