In 2008, Karcher was named quarter backs coach at the University of Toledo. He helped lead the Rockets in an upset win over the Michigan Wolverines, although the squad finished 3 8. Karcher began by thanking the Rotarians for the priv ilege to address them about the upcoming season. Karcher then dis cussed his team's suc cess last year of post ing an 8-3 record, making it one of the best seasons that ECCC has had in foot ball in 16 years. Karcher stated he always gets questions about how it feels to win. ''My response to that question will always be is we win every day," Karcher said. "We didn't win just last year, but we won our first year when we were 1-8. We won also the second year when we went 3-6, and we won last year when we went 8-3." Karcher stated this to mean that the ath letes should not let
ting winning on the field define them, but who they are is more important than what they do. ·Karcher then gave the Rotarians a story about how he recruit ed one of his quarter backs to the team by expressing to the yourrg man that he was impressed with his heart more than his talent, as well as expressing the impor tance of everyone in the program from the coaches all the way to the managers. As he continued to address the Rotarians, Karcher expressed how he tries to instill into his players the impor tance of making them succeed off the field. "Those experiences that they will be a part of in the football program will help them for the rest of their lives," Karcher said. "We try to help our young men under stand that it is a holistic process to growth." Karcher said what he looks for in student athletes are young people interesting in working hard, improving on their abilities and giving it their all to improve both on the field and as people.
With this year's col lege football season underway, The Rotary Club of Louisville con tinued its trend of. hosting football coach es as it welcomed East Central Co.mniunity College Head Football.· Coach Ken Karcher to · its August 24 meeting at Lake Tiak O'Khata. Karcher took over East Central's foot ball program, suc ceeding former coach B r i a n Anderson. Karcher was announced as the Head Coach during a press conference held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 on the ECCC campus. Karcher is headed into his fourth season -as head coach at ECCC, after serving as an assistant coach at several NCAA Division I football programs and six sea sons as head coach at Liberty University. Before being hired at ECCC, Karcher served the past four seasons at Eastern Michigan, a member of the Mid-American Conference. He is also a former head coach at Liberty University, where he succeeded EC alumnus Sam

backs coach for the Orlando Thunder of the World League of American Football. After the World League was suspend ed, Karcher returned to the collegiate ranks as an assistant on Johnny Major's coach ing staff at the University of Pittsburgh. During his first season, he served as the Panthers' pass offense coordinator and quar terbacks coach. In March 1994, Majors put Karcher in sole charge of the offense, promoting him to offensive coor dinator and quarter backs coach. He held that position for the next three years, until Majors' resignation at the end of the 1996 season. In 1997, Karcher rejoined Galen Hall in the revamped World League, this time as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks . coach of the Rhein Fire, based in Dusseldorf, Germany.
