District 78 Rep. Randy Rushing, R-Decatur, was re sponSI'ble with getting both bands invited to the event. ECCC band director Ed Girllng said it was the only the third time the East Cen tral band had performed in the inauguration parade in the past 35 years. "I reooived the invitation through Dr. Stewart (The PresJdent) as we were driv ing home from the trip to the bowl game in Texas," Girling said. The parade Rtarted at 1:30 p.m. and traveled down Capitol Street, which was lined with thousands of spectators. Girling said it was a slight challenge finding time for the band to pre pare for the event coming out of tbe holiday break. "Since the marching band does not meet during the second semester, we abandoned the class sched ule and alJ the band mem bers came back and learned the music and rou tines on Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 when classes started," Girling said. "We marched it around campus on ,Jan. 11 and perfonned on Tues day. The theme of the pa rade was ,._ '.'Un~~ Mississippi" so MMMtta ~
