Dr. Billy Stewart PTK taps ECCC president East Central Commu

Headquartered in Jack son, PTK is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,285 chapters on two year and community col lege campuses in the U.S. and overseas. East Central is home to the Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. A native of Pearl, Stewart earned his bache lor's degree in history and his master's degree in cur riculum and instruction, both from the University of Southern Mississippi, "'

and his doctorate in high er education administra tion from Mississippi State University. At East Central, Stewart initiated a strate gic planning process to shape and guide the future of the institution. As a result, 2020 Vision was adopted in February of 2013 and includes a long-term desire to be nationally recognized and locally preferred while meeting educational and training needs of college district residents.

nity Co11ege President Dr. Billy Stewart has been appointed to the presiden tial advisory board for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He is one of 33 college presidents nationwide on the board, which provides input into the organiza tion's strategic plan, prior ities and direction. Board members will advocate for PTK, its members and its mission; serve as liaisons between • PTK headquarters and col1ege leaders and advise PTK's executive director and other leaders. "I am honored to be asked to serve on the pres idential advisory board for an organization that rec ognizes the academic achievements of commu nity college students," said Stewart, who was named ECCC president in July 2012. "Having attended the inaugural meeting of the advisory board, I look for ward to continuing to par ticipate in the discussion among community college leaders from across the nation in regards to initia

tives that will enhance Phi Theta Kappa's impact on student success. "And, having two chil dren who are currently members of Phi Theta Kappa here at East Central, I am personally invested in the outcome of those discussions."
