Northeast sweeps East Central

DECATUR, Miss. (WTVNNEMCC Athletics) - The Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady ~i;, Tigers defeated the East Central Lady Warriors 77-61 in a North Division matchup Thursday 'l night. The Lady Tigers led at halftime 43-33, but the Lady Warriors used a 13-0 run to start the third quarter. Northeast would take the lead back by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Tigers (4-3 overall, 2-0 North) were led by Timaya Stewart's 19 points and 11 rebounds. Shelby Wilbanks added 13 points and Aundrea Adams had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, the Tigers defeated the Warriors 75-64 in the nightcap. East Central led the entire game until the 3:51 mark of the second half, when Northeast grabbed the lead on Kendall Stafford's three-point basket. Northeast (7-1, 2-0) shot 8of11 from the three-point line in the second half. The Tigers were led by Kendarius Smith's 23 points, along with Leroy Buchanan's 17 points and Kendall Stafford's 13. Northeast will travel to Columbia State for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning with women's action at 5:30 p.m.
