_ Exceptional talent is hard to come by and even harder to keep in certain instances. Such is the case for Kentwood and the Lady Roos basketball team as head coach Ronneka "Nene" Robertson has accepted a position as an assistant coach at East Central Community College in Mississippi. Robertson, a former All-State performer on the court for the Lady Roos, took over the Kentwood girls basketball program prior to the 2014-15 season. She led the team to 22 total victories during her two seasons at the helm, which included a 15-11 mark last season with a trip to the 2nd Round of the Class IA playoffs. Robertson, a native of Kentwood, said the decision to leave her hometown and current players was difficult to say the least, but she hopes to show them that they can all achieve their dreams and aspirations through hard work and ,; dedication.

Robertson departs Kentwood for college job MOVING ON UP - Kentwood girls coach Ronneka Robertson has accepted a position at East Central Community College (MS) as an assistant coach.

"It was a super tough decision because I love my girls and we grew such a bond as a family," Robertson began. "I always did what was best for them but I also have to do what's best for me because we all have dreams. When God opens those doors, you have to walk through them because you don't know if you'll ever get a chance like this again. "It was really tough leaving them and I'll still do anything in the world for them but hopefully this will : show them that I may not be on the court with you but I can still help you out, and maybe I can offer one of them a scholarship one day." Robertson can't make any guarantees on that front just yet but the love she has for her players was evident throughout her time as Kentwood's head coach and clearly, the feeling was mutual. "The sky is the limit coach! I'm really going to miss you getting on my nerves and me getting on yours lol!," wrote junior-to-be Ty'Niesha Venible on Robertson's Facebook page. "I really was looking forward to getting back in the gym with you this year to lead my team farther than what we did last year but God had another plan. You got a better job offer because of your skills and I'm very proud of you! Now that you are not going to be with us this year, I really have step up and be the leader you know I am and help my team out! You're really going to be missed Coach Nene, love you."
