Lady Wolves lose beartbreaker to East Central

FULTON - The Co-Lio Lady Wolves lost a heartbreaker the the No. I South Division seed East Central Lady Wlll'T'iors. The Joss eliminates the Lady Wolves (21 ·4) from MACJC State Tournament. The Lady Wolves will be back in action in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament that begins on Wednesday, March 2, at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus ofMiss1ss1ppi College in Clinton, Mississippi. The game seemed to go in Co-Lin's favor from the \Cry begmning as the Lady Wolves;umped to the lead with a quick three-pointer from Alexis Colhns The Lady Wolves played very physical and netted 22 points in the first quaner alone and ended the period with a 22-18 lead. The defense for the Lady Wolves stepped up m the second quarter as the Lady Warriors were held to only I l points Co-Lin's offense continued to find the rim as the team poured manother 16 points to extend to a 38-29 lead entering the locker room. East Central roaring back in the third quarter and begin finding the basket more often. Led by Samantha Duncan. the Lady Warriors whittled the Lady Wolves lead down to just ooe with just over five minutes remaining m the contest. Sophomore forward Kelley Allen, a cornerstone of the Lady Wolfoffensive, fouled out w1th just twO and half minutes remaining in the contest Wilh a little over one minute 10 play, the Lady Warriors gained their first lead and only lead of the ball game from a huge three-pointer from Duncan. Co-Lin was unable to overcome the impressive second half performance from East Central. The Lady Warriors shot 58 percent in the second haJ f of play. ··we had a chance, and we blew it in the end," said Lady Wolves head coach Gwyn Young. "They put a lot of pressure on you defensively and we just didn't handle 11 I 1ke we needed to.~ Danisha Davis came off the bench and scored a team-high 18 points for the Lad) Wolves. Kelley Allen nened 12 points and brought d0\\11 fi\C rebounds while Colhns added another eight points. Jamihah Sanders fimshed with st~ points and six rebounds. Debraia Bell came off the bench and scored eight and grabbed five boards. Alexia McDonald and Duncan led the Lady Warriors with 19 points each. McDonald added seven rebounds while Duncan added eigilt. Mircale Rushing finished with a double double after nening I I points and bringing down 11 rebounds. Johnta Hughes added another 10 points for the Lady Warriors The Lady Wolves shot 42 percent (25-of-60) from the field, 43 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range, and 72 percent (5-of-7) from the foul line. The Lady Wolves shoi 44 percent (26-of-59) from the field, 44 percent (7-of-16) from three-point range, and SO percent (6-of-12) from lhe free throw line.
