ECCC Women Run Win Streak to 16

It was a close battle for the East Central Community College fa' men's and women's basketball teams in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur on Sophomore Night. Free throws were a pivotal factor as the Lady Warriors pulled out a 79-73 win over Southwest Mississippi's Lady Bears, while the Warriors ended their season falling 79-75 in overtime against the Bears on Thursday, Feb. 18. The East Central Lady Warriors improved their overall record to 21-2 and 13-1 in MACJC South Division to finish their regular season, extending their winning streak to 16. Four Lady Warriors put up double-digit scoring. Samantha Duncan out of Oak Grove High School fa' led the Lady Warrior scorers with 25 points, Alexia McDonald out of Petal High School followed adding 23 points, Miracle Rushing out of Meridian High School put up 17 points, and Kalybriah Haskin (Olympian High School, Chula Vista, Calif.) added 10 points. Duncan had a big night against the Lady Bears and went nine of 10 at the free throw line. She also had 12 rebounds, five assists and a steal. Rushing also brought down 12 rebounds for a double-double. In the men's basketball action, the Warriors ended their season 13-10 overall and 8-6 in the South Division. The Bears finished their regular season 14-8 overall and 9-5 in the South Division. The loss dropped the Lady Bears to 17-6 overall and 9-5 in the South Division.
