ECCC student manager reads to area children Laromeo McKee was among East Central Community College student-athletes who recent– ly participated in a community service project at Newton Elementary School. McKee, who serves as a student manager, and Lady Warrior basketball players read books to kinder– garten and first-grade students, assisted with their homework and concluded activities by playing various outside games. McKee is a product of Scott Central High School. ECCC women's basketball head coach Crandal Porter, who previously led Newton High School basketball programs, initiated the project. "Because of my obvious connection with the Newton community, I felt the need to show the connection between sports, and basketball in particular, and education," said Coach Porter. "Also, I wanted to see the impact that ath– letes could have on the lives of young kids. We plan to make appearances in other commu– nities and schools as well." (EC Photo)
