Mays named offensive coordinator at ECCC

He began his career in 1982 as a secondary coach at Milan High School in Milan, Tenn. His high school coaching experience also includes stints as secondary coach at Humboldt (Tenn.) High School (1985); head coach at Chester County High School in Henderson, Tenn. (1990- 91), where he was named 1991 District Coach of the Year; head coach at Cordova (Tenn.) High School;andd& fensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Sequatchie County High School in Dun– lap,Tenn. Mays entered the coll&– giate coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennesse&– Martin (defensive ends) in 1986, then Memphis State University (offensive line/tight ends) in 1987-88, andLouisiana StateUniver– sity (running backs) in 1989. Prior to joiningthe ECCC staff, Mays served as defen– sive assistant with the Vtr– ginia Destroyers of the United Football League in 2012.

MickeyMayswas recently named offensive coordinator at East Central Community College in Decatur, an– nouncedhead football coach Ken Karcher. Mays is a former assistant to Coach Karcher, having served on his Liberty Uni– versity staff as defensive line coach and special teams co– ordinator. Karcher said he looks for– ward toworkingwith his for– mer assistant and what he brings to the Warrior foot– ball program. "Coach Mays is someone I trust and respect as a foot– ball coach," said Karcher. "He does a great job teach– ing the fundamentals of the game to his players and is someone who cares about tbe whole person. I am ex– cited that Mickeyhas agreed to become a part of my staff and help East Central build a first-class program." Mays has 30 years coach– ing experience on the high school, college and profes– sional levels.

EC softball camp scheduled June 3 · 5 The annual East Central Community College Softball Camp will be held June 3-5 on the Decatur campus. Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day of the instructional clinic, which is designed for third– through sixth-grade students. Cost is $60 per camper, which includes insurance.
