Bender, who began her newduties onAugust 13, was previouslyemployed by the Newton Municipal School Districtfrom 2007- 12and served as girls' assis– tantbasketball coach for • Porter. Her duties included coachinghigh school bas– ketball and softball, and servingas aphysical educa– tion instructor. Shealso tutored several students in geometryand reading at the high school and middle school levels. As an assistantto Porter, Benderwas instrumental in helping lead the Newton girls to the 2009-10Class 2A statechampionship. She also served as head basket- ball coach ofthe junior high girls' teamand posted a 62- mater as an assistantto the recently named War– rior head coach Cran- Bender

Benderwas abasketball standout at Newton High School and continued her career atECCC, where she helped lead theWarriors to Region23, MACJCState and MACJCSouth Division titles and a second-place fin– ish in the consolation brack– et oftheNJCMWomen's Basketball National Cham– pionship.The Brad Hodge– coached squad also fin– ished eighth in the :final NJCMpoll. Bender received an asso– ciate's degree from ECCC in 2004 and recently earned a bachelor'sdegree in Inter DisciplinaryStudies at jackson State University.
