Porter served as girls' and boys' head bas– ketball coach at Newton High School since 2001. He led the girls' squad to stateClass 2A titles in 2005 and 2010. HisTiger squad cap– tured the state Class 2Achampionship in 2008.

He began his successful career at his alma mater LouisvilleHigh School, where he served as boys' head basketball coach in 2000-01. Porterhas compiled anoverall494-216 record, which also includes seven division championships, threeSouth State titles and eight tournamentappearances. Honors includeTheMeridianStar's Boys' Coach oftheYear in2000, MAC Class 2A Girls' CoachoftheYear in 2005, MSAll-Star Girls' Coach in 2005, MSA.ll-Star Boys' Coach in 2009 and MACGirls' CoachoftheYear in 2010. He was selected Newton's Citizen of theYear in2005. Porter received a BachelorofScience degree in Health, Physical Education, Recre– ation and Dance fromMissis ippi Valley State University in 1998 and earned aMaster ofEducational Leadership fromMississippi State University in 2010. Porter ismarried to the former Crystal Johnson ofNewton. He has a daughter, AmberJamerson Porter, 15. ·

terday, succeeds Billy Smith who retired from the state sys– tem after leading theWarrior programfor eightyears. Smith was recently namedgirls' head basketball coach at Choctaw Central High School. Dr. tewart stated Coach Porterwill be agreat addition to the ECCCfamily.
