English instructor Pam Fowler of Union and soph omore Ashley 1oore of Carthage will represent Ea't Central Community College at the 23rd annual Natchez Lit· erary and Cinema Celebration. The nationally significant con– ference -which has captured the 2011 Governor's Award for Excel– lence in the Arts, an Olympic award and four statewide awards for outstanding humanities pro– gramming- begins Thursday and continues through Sunday in Natchez. "Legends, Lore and Literature: Storytelling in the South" is this year's theme and features some of the country's most prominent writers, scholars and filmmakers. The celebration recognizes out· -tanding faculty members and stu· dents representing the humanities division of Mississippi's commu– nity colleges, four-year colleges and universities. Each honoree is referred to as a William Winter Scholar, in honor of the former Mississippi governor, who has been the Celebration's director of proceedings since it began in 1990. Fowler joined the ECCC faculty in August 2007. A resident of Union, she was previously employed with the Neshoba Cen– tral School District, East Missis– sippi Community College in Scooba, Union Separate School District and Lake High School. She has 18 years of teaching expe– rience. She is also a certified online instructor and has taught online English classes for the past 12 years. Her honors include her selec– tion to Who's Who Among Teachers in American junior Col– leges while a member of the E.MCC faculty. She holds an associate of arts degree from Meridian Community College, a bachelor of arts degree

from Millsaps Collrge, and a master of science degree from Misstssippi State University. Moore, who is studying to become an English teacher, has maintained an overall 3.8 grade point average. She earned a per– fect 4.0 average last fall and quali– fied for the President's List. She is co-editor of the Wo-He– Lo yearbook and serves as a writer on The Tom-Tom news– paper staff. She also enjoys writing poetry. Her first poem, "Anne Boleyn," was published in the 2010 edition of American Library of Poetry. Moore is also a member of the Wall 0' Sound Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Phi Theta

Kappa honor society, Student Edu– cation Association, Astronomy Club, Environmental Club and Concert Band. She is a 2010 graduate of Leake Academy, where she served as senior class president. annual editor, Senior Christian president and vice president of Students Against Destructive Decisions She was also a Beta Club member and served as senior homecoming maid.
