SPORTS Warriors get 20th win with sweep SPECIAL TO THE TIMES DECATUR - Winning ways continue for the East Central Community College Diamond Warriors who improved to 20-12 overall and 8-4 in the MACJC South Division following a pair of victories over Copiah-Lin– coln Community College Tuesday, April 3 at the Clark/Ga) Baseball Complex in Decatur. East Central rallied for an 8-5 victory in the opener and held on for a 6-5 decision in the nightcap to sweep the Wolves, who dropped to 15-14-1 and 2-10. Ricardo Velez and Carlos Leal, both of Puerto ruco, each doubled and singled to lead the EC offense, which tallied four runs in the third inning and four and sixth to claim the win. Velez was also credited with two RBis. Other sluggers were Kalik May of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) County High School, Tim Anderson of Hillcrest (Ala.) High School and Kyle Henson of Starkville Academy, singles each . Runs were scored by May (2), Anderson {2), Terrance Steele ofNeshoba Central (2), Velez and Jared Seymour of St. Martin. Co-Lin scored one run in the fJrst inning and four in the fJfth. Right-hander Fernando Gonzalez of Puerto Rico picked up the win in relief. Gonzales hurled a scoreless I 2/3 innings and aJlowed one hit. Starter Severino ofDeer Creek went 3 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits. The right-hander fanned one batter and walked five. Right-hander Evan Humphries of Louisville pitched I 2/3 innings and allowed one hit. In the second game, EC j umped out to 2-0 lead then fell behind when the visiting Wolves scored three runs in the top of the third inning. But the Diamond Warriors took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame follow– ing a two-run triple by Xzavier Franklin of Newton County, which scored David McAdory of Louisville and Velez.
