ECCC women soccer named Academic Team·o.f the Year by NJCAA from st aff reports The East Central Com– munity College women's soccer team earned a pres– tiguous honor 2011-12 NJCAAWomen's Soccer Academic Team of the Year honor from the national headquarters. The War riors compiled a 3.48 team GPA to lead all women's soccer teams to earn the award. Other area teams that earned an NJCAAAll-Acad– emic Team honor (GPA of at least 3.0) include the East Central baseball team (3.37), the East'Mississippi Community College men's basketball team (3.0) , the EMCC women's basketball team (3.16), the EMCC men's golf team (3.15), the ECCC men's golf team (3.03) , the ECCC women's softball team (3.49), the EMCC softball team (3.31), the ECCC men's tennis team (3.50), the Meridian Com- . munity College men's tennts team (3.44), the ECCC women's tennis team (3.40) and the MCC women's See NJCAA on page B2 - Monday, when the Warriors netted the

Individuals that earned academic honors from EMCC were softball standouts ShelbyWitt, who earned the NJCMAward for Superior AcademicAcheivement with a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99; and Clarkdale product Cory Roberson, who earned the NJCAAAward for Exemplary Academic Achievementwith a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79. Other Lions honored were two-time all-state golfer WestonWallace, who also claimed the NJCMSuperior Academic Achievement award, while football standout DerrickWilson and baseball star SpencerWilson netted NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement awards. ECCC had 11 student-ath– letes honored for their per– formance in the classroom, led by Newton County prod– ucts Nikki Cumberland, Emily Lucy andWendy McCracken, all members of the women's soccer team that earnedAcademic Team of the Year. Cumberland and McCracken both earned the SuperiorAcademic Achieve– mentAward, while Lucy received the Exemplary Acad– emic Achievement honor. OtherSuperiorAcademk Achievement winners were Kaetlen Brown (softball), Tate Rogers (football) and Kelsi Wilson (softball). Earning ExemplaryAcademic Achievement honors were Haelie Allen (softball), Evan Humphries (baseball), Neshoba Central's Eden McGee (softball), Miguel Medrano (men's soccer) and Enterprise's Haylee Rober ts (softball). MCC's Wilson earned Superior Academic Achievement When Meridian Community College's list of academtc stu– dent-athlete award winners were ran Friday, MCC softball standout Kelsey Wilson was mis– takenly listed as Kelsey Smith. Wilson was aSuperior Acad– emic Achievement winner for the Eagles Wtth a 3.95 GPA.
