Former ECCC great Richard Harris inducted into MACJC Hall

East Central Community College alumnus Richard Harris (right) of Hickory is congratu– lated by ECCC athletic director Chris Harris following his induction into the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame at the 2012 ceremony held April24 at the Hinds Community College Muse Center in Pearl. Richard Harris was a standout bas– ketball player at Hickory High School, ECCC and Delta State University and followed his success on the hardwood as a high school coach, capturing five state titles and a· win– ning percentage of more than .700. He led girls' squads to state titles at Hickory in 1963, 1964 and 1974 and at Decatur in 1990. His led the Newton County Academy boys' team to a 1997 state championship. Harris is also a member of the ECCC Athletic Hall of Fame, • Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of • Fame and the DSU Alumni Coaches Hall of Fame. He is the recipient of numerous other coaching honors and awards. Harris is among the 15 members of the Sixth Class of the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame.
