EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

• DECATUR- Shevondra Benn-Clayton ofMeridian is a recent addition to the Practical Nursing faculty at East Central Com– munity College. Prior to joining the ECCC staff, Benn-Ciayton served as a urut super– visor at Golden Uving Center in Meridian. She previouslyheld the same P<'Sition at Poplar Springs Nursing Home, also located in Meridian. Her experience also includes serving as an RN Charge/Staff Nurse at Rush Founda· tion Hospital in Meridian. In all, she has six years of professional health– care experience. She was salutatorian ofher 1999 graduating class at Kemper County High School and received an asso– ciate in arts/pre-nursing degree in 2001 from East Mississippi Commu– nity College in Scooba. While attending EMCC, Benn– Clayton was tapped for membership in Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, and was named to Who's ~o Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She continued her education by recei\ing a bachelor's degree in nursing education from the Univer– sity ofSouthern Mississippi in 2003. She plans to attend graduate school at the University ofSouthernMissis– sippi-Meridian Campus in January 2010 to startworking on a roaster's degree in nursing education. She is married to Antonio Clayton of Lauderdalc.Benn-Ciayton is a member ofthe Oak Grove M.B. Church in Preston, where she serves as adult choir director and is active in various church organizations and functions.
