ECCC establishes Neill Memorial Scholarship A scholarship in memory of the Rev. J. L. Neill was recently endowed at East Central Community College in Decatur. The John Lambert Neill Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Harold S. Aycock, a 1964 ECCC grad– uate who attended the College when the Rev. Neill served as Wesley Foundation director. Neill was a native ofMontrose in Jasper County and a 1906 graduate of Millsaps College. In 1907, he began a lifetime of service as a licensed Methodist minister. His 64 years of ''tireless and distin– guished sen·ice·· \\as frequently recognized at the state, national and international levels within the Methodist Church. From 1921-25 as bead ofthe Methodist Mission work in Czechoslovakia, he organized a full-fledged annual conference and helped establish a seminary in Prague. As Wesley Foundation director at ECCC from 1954 to 1969, the Rev. Neill ''was tireless in his ministry to the spiritual and personal needs of current and former stu– dents. ..and was always available to assist students with personal issues and to assist in opening doors of opportu– nity for personal, educational and career development," according to the scholarship description. The John Lambert Neill Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to sophomore students with a minimum 3.0 grade point average, who qualifY for fmancial assistance. The scholarship will be awarded for two semesters, with the amount based upon earnings from the endowment corpus. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the College's Scholarship Committee.
