"To be honest, as many times a s I have had to pick people in the last 12 years for various honors, I thought he was calling for me to help select some– body," Clark said . ~'Well, when Dr. Sutphin said, 'you're it' I r eplied, 'Do what'? Clark, wh o r etired from full-time responsibil– ities in 1996 but contin– u ed coaching the golf team through 2001, is the sixth representative from ECCC to be enshrined in the MACJC (Mississippi Association for Communi– ty and Junior Colleges) Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of a championship basketball squad at East Central and returned to his alma mater to coach men's bas– ketball for 13 years, golf for 30 years and tennis for 20 years during his 34- year tenure on the Decatur campus. Clark also taught math throughout his career at ECCC and served 26 years as housing director. His coaching high– lights include his 1968-69 Warrior basketball team finishing 20-7, and his 1995-1996 golf and tennis teams being selected NJ CAA Academic Teams of the Year. Clark was inducted into t he ECCC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. He was named Region 23 Golf Coach of the Year in 1997 and MACJC Golf Coach of the Year in 2001.
