Leake girls advance to title tilt; from staff reports AREA ROUNDUP

The Leake Academy Rebelettes jumped out to a quick start on Priday afternoon and secured their spot in the MPSA Class AA State Finals with a 79-53 win over Prairie View. The win moves Leake Academy into today's championship game against Oak Forest at 2:15p.m. Leake avoided a blemish to their perfect season with a strong start against Prairie View on Friday afternoon. The Rebelettes rolled to a 25-14 lead at th~ end of the first quarter and outs<:ored Prairie View 22-14 in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 19 points at hall. Leake Academy extended its lead to 63<~5 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to the 26- point victory. The Rebl'lettes, now 4(}.0, were led by Whitney Gross, who poured in 2:~ points in the victory. Hannah Lee and Emily Kea each added l6 points and Mary Laurin Wilson rounded out the double-figure scoring with 12 points for Leake. Logan 'I ubbs led Prairie View with 14 points in the loss.

80 East Central women 75 The playoff-bound Lady War– riors fell by five to the Pearl River women, who avenged an earlier 63-53loss. EC completed the regular season 19-5 overall and 10-4 in league play under third-year head coach BiU Smith. The Lady War– riors finished second in the South behind Meridian, which captured league honors with an 11-3 record. The Lady Warriors face ·Holmes Community College at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in first-round MACJC Tournament action at Itawamba. The winner battles the Itawamba/Co-Lin victor at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Four East Central women scored in double figures against Pearl River, with former Newton standoutTawayatha Evans leading the way with 21 points. Also in double figures were Rashima Jenkins with 17; Tanesha Brown with 16; and former Choctaw Cen– tral standout Mystee Dale with 15. Olivia Magee poured in 19

LATE JUCO BASKETBALL Pearl River 61 East Central men 58 A controvhsial technical foul with just seconds remaining allowed the visiting Wildcats to escape vvith a three-point win over East Central Thursday night in Decatur, thus ending the War– riors' season. With the loss, ECfinishes 11-13 overall and 6-8 in the MACJC South Division under second-year head coach Maurice Bowie. EC and Southwest tied for fifth place in division competition. Devarus "Scooter" Walker, a former Newton County standout, was the top scorer for EC with 16 points. Darron Maxtion had 15 points: Labaron Weathers had 12 points to lead the Wildcats, who improved to 16-9 overall. EC trailed 30-22 at halftime. -from school reports
