Juco Baseball Busy weekend lies ahead for Meridian and East Central Central Mississippi will be a hotbed of junior college baseball activity this weekend, with a pair of area events kicking off this afternoon. With the juco baseball season just a few weeks old, the Meridian Community CoJiege Eagles and East Central Warriors will each play host to early-season events this weekend. In Meridian, the 1-3 Eagles will welcome in five teams to Scaggs Field as part of the 2008 Rush Tournament. A trio of games twill take place both today and Sat– urday before a tournament-ending doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The event will open today at noon. when the homestanding Eagles will play a pair of games back-to-hack to kick off the fes– tivities. MCC will take the field agaihst Southeastern (Iowa) at noon before squaring off with Wabash (TIL) Valley at 3 p.m. In the nightcap, Wabash will remain on the field to take on Wal– lace-HanceviiJe (Ala.) in a nine– inning matchup. MCC will take the day off Sat– urday as Wallace-Hanceville starts the day's activity with an 11 a.m. tilt against Southeastern. Pearl River will close Saturday with a 3 p.m. meeting with Wabash before a 6 p.m. clash with Southeastern. On Sunday, MCC will close the event with a double dip against Southeastern and Wabash, with first pitch scheduled for noon. In Decatur, East Central's defending slate champion War– riors will be just as busy, wel– coming in a field of seven teams for the ECCC Invitational. The Warriors will lead off the three-day event this morning, taking on Kaskaskia CoJiege of Centralia, Ill., at 11. All games in Decatur are scheduled for seven innings with the exception of the weekend finale between ECCC and Northeast, which is scheduled for nine innings.
