DECATUR- With Tanesha Brown and Andrea Dubose combining for 57 points, the East Cenlral Community Col– lege Lady Warriors moved into third place in the MACJC South Division standings with a 93-89 win over Missis– sippi Gulf Coast Community College Monday night. ECCC improved to 8-5 in the division and 16-7 overall. Going into Monday, Copiah-Lincoln was in first place at 11-l, followed by J one.s at 9-3. The Lady War– riors' win, coupled with Meridian Com– muni!) College's 74-66 victory over Southwest Mississippi, left both MCC and Southwest in a tie for fourth at 7-6 with one league game remaining. TI1e Lady Warriors wrap up the reg– ular st•ason Thursday at Pearl River. "It could still be a three-way tie," ECCC coach Billy Smith said. "South– west has got the tiebreaker over us and~ we've got the tiebreaker over Meridian. · "The South Division is by far the tougher of the two divisions. If we can manage to be in the top four of it, that's a pretty good deal for us." ECCC took a 43-36 lead over Gulf Coast into halftime behind 20 points
lbe Warriors fell behind early as the Bulldogs led by as many as 16 points b<•fore taking a 43-29 lead into halltime. ECCC closed to within 62-57 on a tip in by Marquis Wilson with 8:15 remaining and fought to within 70-67 on a basket by Darron Maxtion with 4:43 showing. The Warriors had two misses and a turnover on their next two possessions, but still got to within 70-68 on a free throw by Earnesto Green with 3:18 to go. Gulf Coast made 3-of-4 free throws over the next minute and got a dunk from Ronald Douglas with 1:53 left to extend its lead to 75-!)8. Green led ECCC (7-16, 3-10) with 23 points. Wilson scored 14, Bryan Johnson had 10 and Caleb Pearson made three 3-pointers in a nine-point night. Divis ion champion Gulf Coast (19-5, 12-1) got 21 points from Henry Salter, 13 from Lee Trebotich. nine from A.J . Hunt, and eight eac h from Douglas. Luther Suggs and Carlos Wright.
