EC unable to hold leads against Co-Lin A five-game win streak came to an end for the East Central Community Col– lege Lady Warriors as nationally ranked Copiah– Lincoln Community Col– lege rallied for a 59-58 nail– biting victory Thursday night in the Brackeen– Wood Physical Education Building on the Decatur campus. In the men's contest, EC was unable to maintain its 28-22 halftime lead and the Wolves rallied for a 70-64 victory. With the loss, EC dropped to 7-13 and 3-7, while the Wolves improved to 15-5 and 8-2. Marquis Wilson of Delhi, La., led EC with 16 points. Also scoring were Brandon Shelton of New– ton and Earnesto Green of Jackson Provine, 14 each; DarronMaxtion, a product of Sparkman High School in Harvest, Ala., eight; Bryan Johnson of Provine, seven; Chris Brown of Hat– tiesburg and Craig Pruitt of Newton County, two each; and Caleb Pearson of Richland, one.
East Central, which managed a slim 38-35 half- time advantage over the tenth-ranked Lady Wolves, held its last lead at 58-57 with about two minutes remaining on a jumper by Tawaytha Evans of New- ton. Co-Lin's Erica Trahan put up the game's final points with 1:36 remaining and neither team scored again, although EC missed a shot with 33 seconds left and turned the ball over late allowing the Lady Wolves to seal the victory. With the loss, EC fell to 14-6 overall and 6-4 in MACJC South Division action, while the division leading Lady Wolves improved to 19-2 and 9-1. Valerie Harris of Lake led EC in scoring with 17 points. Also scoring were Evans and Tanesha Brown of Jackson Provine, 11 each; Andrea Dubose of Newton County, nine; Car– lena Clemmons of Union, four; and Jordan Patterson of Oak Hill Academy, Jes– sica Anderson of Newton and Katherine Taylor of Carthage, two each.
