Hoskins, a 5-11. 290-pound defensive tackle from Louisville; nose guard Taquan Lowe, a 5-10, 260-pound product of Holt High chool in Tu catoosa, and David Brackett, a 6-1, 190-pound line– backer from Philadelphia. Cnderwood also bad praise for fresh– man linebackers Harvey Brown, a 5-9. 235-pound product of Neshoba Central High School, and Brad Ellis, a 5-10, 240- pound former standout at Forest. Underwood said he is "very pleased'' with the kicking game. "I am probably more excited about our kicking game than I have been in many years. We have two' outstanding kickers and punters in Beau Hannah (6- 2, 190) of Morton, a transfer from Mississippi State, and Derek Crenshaw (6-2, 185) of Neshoba Central." Underwood said Will Butts, a 6-3, 265- pound sophomore from Louisville, will be the long snapper. "It's been a while (1999) since we advanced to the post-season and our guys have made it clear that we want to play for a championship. This is a good group, and we know that if we make it to the playoffs, we have a chance to possi– bly win a state title and play in a bowl game," Underwood said.
"Michael is playing as good as I have ever seen him play. Katlan is also having a great camp. Both are very talented.·· Underwood also praised several offensive linemen. "Marquis Harris (6-1, 290) of Meridian is starting at strong guard and James Jenkins (6-2, 245) of Columbus will start at quick guard. Both are really strong players and doing a great job. John Bailey (6-2. 245) of Tuscaloosa has moved to offensive tackle from the full– back and tight end positions and is also having a great preseason camp." Additional players receiving praise on offense include fullback Marcus Travis (5-7, 200) of Perry Central, tight ends Spencer Spane of Terry, a transfer from North Carolina A&T, Josh Williams of JacksQn Lanier and wide receiver Kendrick May of Tuscaloosa County. Underwood said the leading returnee on defense is ]orrick Calvin, a 5-10, 185- pound product of Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge. "]orrick did an outstanding job last year. He had five or six interceptions and 30-plus tackles. He is as good a corner– back as we have had here at EC, evi– denced by the fact that he is being high– ly recruited by almost every team in the country." Returning middle linebacker Jamar Lawrence, a 6-1, 220-pound product of Tuscaloosa County High School, is also expected to have another great year. Also cited as defensive standouts are sophomores Chris Ivy, a 6-2, 225-pound defensive end from Louisville; Mark
