DECATUR- On a night when East Central Community College held ceremonies to dedi– cate the new entrance to Bill and Louise Bailey Stadium, the Warriors nearly delivered a land– mark victory.

Though East Central made big play after big play in pur– suit of a win against 11th– ranked Jones County, it turned out to be a play that the Warriors failed to make that proved to be a difference maker.

Just 17 seconds later, East Central's final pass fell to the ground, giving the 11th-ranked Bobcats an unlikely win. "We made a lot of mistakes there early on, but we really played pretty well after that," remarked ECCC head coach Terry Underwood, who watched his team fall to 2-1 with the heart– breaking loss. "Give Jones credit, they made plays when they had to make them." Trailing 18-9 at halftime, East Central thor– oughly controlled the second half, limiting Jones to just 57 second half yards before James engi– neered a 63-yard scoring drive for the victory. James completed a pair of passes on the drive, both to Gill, to help the Bobcats snatch victory

With tile visiting Bobcats trailing 'East Central 29-25 in the fading moments ofThursday night's game, Jonl's County quarterback Early James lofted a desperation pass toward the Warrior 'endzone. While two E:CCC defenders converged on the pass, neither could get a hand on it as Bobcat receiverTebiarus Gill leapt up and snared the 26- yard touchdown, sending the JCJC sideline into a frenzy. Despite being outplayed for the majority of the second half, Gill's third touchdown grab of the night gave the Bobcats an improbable 32-29 lead.
